Embracing a person’s spirituality & religion within their hypnotherapy

In hypnotherapy we rely on belief

We want to work with the subconscious to create change through metaphor and story.

Working with a person’s own belief system will give the changes we make in hypnosis a far better chance of long term success.

Those with spiritual and religious beliefs already have a strong narrative and belief system. Why would we ask them to follow new metaphor when they already have their own?

Whilst I don’t know everything about all religions, my clients know what they need to about their own. Spending a little time understanding their beliefs and important iconography to them gives a beautiful and affirming session.

Being inclusive doesn’t necessarily mean removing spirituality

Instead we can embrace the beliefs they wish to share and explore.

Just like it’s not essential for me to have the same background or expectations as my clients in order to work with them effectively, I don’t have to share my client’s religion to work with it in session.

Religion can be a key source of comfort, and an important part of how a person understands their world.

A person whose religion or spirituality is a big part of their life will really benefit from drawing on key motifs whilst they explore their inner minds.

Some psychology and therapy modalities draw on spiritual themes

Probably more than you may be aware of.

Even something like mindfulness which is very much based in the here and now draws influence from religion.

I have knowledge in Transpersonal and Jungian psycholoy, along with modalities like Internal Family Systems which draws on elements of these.

I also have additional training in Gestalt and Psychosynthesis, and as a deeply spiritual person myself work a lot with archetypes and metaphor.
